about

The second single off my forthcoming debut album Songs from the Barrier Line.

This song was released on 7 October 2022 as a special tribute to my mum Julie - who would have turned 59 on this day. I wrote this song several weeks after mum passed away in 2019, whilst I was on a 21km walk along an abandoned rail line in the outback between Broken Hill and Silverton. Mum rode horses as a teenager and as I was walking along the rail line in the dusky daybreak, a herd of brumbies came galloping out of the desert and crossed the line in front of me. I felt as though mum had sent me a sign of her everlasting love. I spent the rest of the walk crying and writing this song.

lyrics

For my mum Julie who is ridin' free 'til the end of time

My grievin’ heart went walking out
On the railroad line that’s abandoned now
The country held my sorrow sweet
Lay a path for my weary feet

The west wind blew thoughts of you
I’ll hold you close ‘til my days are through
Together we’ll walk these tracks and lines
Soul of mother and child intertwined

And your love rolls on like the endless sky
It is richer than a silver mine
I hold you close in night so deep
In my heart your love I’ll keep

When you were young you rode wild and free
On the back of your old white steed
I see you now on the barrier line
Ridin’ free ‘til the end of time

And your love rolls on like the endless sky
It is richer than a silver mine
I see you now on the barrier line
Ridin’ free ‘til the end of time
I see you now on the barrier line
Ridin’ free ‘til the end of time
